I was one of what appears to be a significant number of Jay Leno viewers who witnessed Chris Mathews demonstrating an unusual amount of affection directed at his beloved superman candidate, Barack Obama. I had never watched Mr. Mathews on television, prior to that appearance of his on Leno- I prefer Sean Hannity. Not being familiar with Mr. Mathews, of course it is apparent to me that he is connected to a network in a news oriented capacity. Performing in a panel scenario or as a commentator produces different responsibility in presentation as compared to an anchorman or woman. I have a feeling that Mr. Mathews works in an area of network news where he can be extremely biased toward a politician as he was toward Obama on the Tonight Show. He probably can carry on an ultimate endorsement for Obama without creating an equal time issue whereas I, myself having apeared on the Networks, could counter his ideas on a media format as a McCain supporter. On a different note and again, not being familiar with Mr. Mathews, I noticed upon seeing him with Leno, an initial impression of him which included his obvious speech affectations and mannerisms and kind of a peripatetic way of shifting around. Adding it up, I believe he spoke way too fondly of Obama and he endorsed him in much too forcefully and overly demonstrative manner for anyone employed in Network TV. I couldn't care less where he works in network news, he should not be strong arming voters in July, virtually ordering them to vote for Obama. Mr. McCain has already been insulted by the New York Times who returned his article and told him to rewrite it like a sixth grader being berated by his teacher. Obama is overseas conducting a dog and pony show as we speak, some of it on taxpayers money that is nothing more than another round of rhetoric laced with a plan to time the war. That is what a lot of unknowing voters want to hear and if Mathews man makes it, believe me Obama isn't going to give a hoot what promises he made about ending the war because he will be in. I do not think Chris Mathews impressed anyone other than projecting himself acting out the role of just another latte sipper smitten with the South Side of Chicago politician.
