There is nothing wrong with Barack Obama, his staff and the average Joe indicating anger and being offended by the New Yorker cartoon which depicted the Obamas in a drawing based on the imagination of the cartoonist. As a journalist myself, I just want to remind everyone who properly voiced their indignation for any reason or motive focused toward their perceived meaning about what was essentially a politically or satirically designed cartoon in an old, cherished and venerable publication, The New Yorker something vital that separates America from our enemies. The cartoonist is constitutionally fortified by Freedom of the Press and I am urging opposing views to remember that. James Thurber once wrote for the New Yorker and among other activities and known as a "tongue in cheek" satirist, he was a foremost political cartoonist. It is important for authors in 2008, just as it was for Thurber and Capote back then in their New Yorker office to have the freedom of the pen that has always created excellence in American literary genres.
