A Chicken Without a Head

July 5, 2008

I remember this expression from the 1950's indicating an erratic person acting illogically- "He is running around like a chicken without a head". This expression refers to the fact that when the butcher in the old days chopped off a chicken's head, the bird would run amuck for a minute or two. What's with Barack Obama now ? On a daily basis he is flip flopping, changing issues and even exhibiting some semblance of duplicity (public financing). I knew that we were in trouble when his Internet groupie showed up serving him as the rock star candidate. Forget about the economy and the Presidency, he is not by any stretch of the imagination an economist or a CPA. We have ad visors for that. Now we are seeing a change in Obama's war strategy. Believe me, he won't decide our destiny there either, we have the military and intelligence establishment for that-they know what they are doing. I am having a lot of trouble figuring that Obama can win when adding the myriad statements and events during the primaries that were either hurtful or implicating  to the present theatre of the absurd revisited stuff. It is almost as if his base isn't paying attention to the repercusions of an Obama Presidency during what is certainly perilous global and economic factors to befall on the United States in future months. I do not think he can begin  to handle any of this.

57 States?

May 16, 2006

When Barack Obama added 7 states to our union  which refers to the  idea of his having commited a bizarre and unbecoming error created by a Presidential candidate I wondered about something interesting. Where did the Harvard educated Mr. Obama come up with the number 57 in the first place? I know about Heinz 57 variety which refers to my two mutts having hybrid vigor and in a completely separate reference, to Kerry's wife's company. The most celebrated and fashionable business addresses in New York are on 57th Street. Otherwise I cannot think of any other reason why the number 57 stuck in his mind. There is a game show on TV where adults compete against children to see who has the better answers and is mediated by that "okay to be a redneck" comedian. I think that now that we have seen yet another  unknown and unexplored  feature of Barack Obama, he would be a natural  as a contestant on that television show. Maybe they might ask the adults and their children adversaries how many seats there are in the Senate.

Kooky, Kooky Lend Me Your Comb

April 29, 2008

That was a song long ago related to an old television show entitled 77 Sunset Strip. Subliminally it somehow brings Election 2008 on the Democratic side with the accent on Barack Obama's failing campaign into a distorted and illogical focus. This primary, it's only the end of April, reminds me of the theatre of the absurd which as a literary format brought up a certain questioning of a typecast failed mission. Do you realize that the American voters are witnessing two individuals, in a pugilistic manner, insulting each other in an endless and trivial banter that has accomplished the abject failure of what appeared to be a promising and intellectually gifted candidate. Mr. Obama has spent much of his valuable time before the public apoligizing for what he has said to offend Americans or fighting and fussing with a book or movie deal hustler and in the mean time we, the voters would be happier being informed concerning matters such as the Recession, gas prices, a dwindling job market, the housing crisis, the credit crunch, nuclear proliferation and the health care system. These two should go off and join a debate team while Howard Dean, Gore, Kerry, Pelosi et al should find a way to bring in Hillary, who is no angel but has reality. All this time I thought Abbot and Costello were passe.

What Does It Take in 2008?

April 18, 2008

Just a quick observation-Do you recall the decisive termination of Gary Hart's Presidential bid many years ago all because a coltish and exceedingly comely Donna Rice sat on his lap with a lasivious smile fused on her pretty face and someone snapped it on a Polaroid Land Camera? That is all it took to ruin the candidacy of Mr. Hart, a bright and effective politician who since then has contributed to our country in a noble way as he has furthered many causes and agendas of great value and importance. A girl sat in his lap-he's yesterday's news. Please fast forward to 2008 and see if you can compare the many miscues, misstatements, allegations, deceptions, questionable events and buddies and on and on. Just think, Gary Hart was thrown out for doing nothing different at that particular moment in a very different era than any man worth his salt would have done and what he did was not improper. Did we the American voters over -scrutinize back then or are we too lax now in our insistence that Presidential hopefuls act legitimately and honestly in the course of their campaigns.

Should We Be Bowling At The Possible Eve Of Destruction?

April 2, 2008

Obama went bowling yesterday and couldn't stay out of the gutter. Then, in an absurd and comedic premeditated proffer, Hillary
through the media invited Obama to participate in a bowling match. 4,000 son's and daughters have died in Iraq. Millions of Americans have lost their homes and jobs or both. Corporate customer service banks rail on consumers asking for returns and credit card companies charge $35 over the limit fees and 18% interest at the same time. Miss a payment and its worse than the juice charged by the loan sharks in my old neighborhood. Retirement is becoming unreachable as famlies are working 24/7 to pay impossible energy and rent charges. The stock market is like the Cyclone at Coney Island, a roller coater of mammoth proportions. Wall Street tanks and the newspaper stand on Broad Street goes under along with the tie shop on William Street. We hear the word Recession dozens of times a day. Kids get  into more trouble than ever before. Election 2008 is Election 1968 with John Carlos raising his defiant arm in the face of the equally troubling hatred against him.

The two candidates, are going on a bowling date, that is what's most important. You lose no weight and burn no calories when bowling, a do-nothing activity that does not require a lot of brain power or specificity. It's a great idea for these two and will end up accomplishing about as much for the American people as they together have achieved to date. May I suggest a blue fish trip for their next outing?

Marvin Gaye Said It Best-What's Going On?

March 25, 2008

I remember the Motown iconic soul singer Marvin Gaye who started in the 1950's as a gospel performer and ended up as a prophetic political soul soothsayer replete wih wool beret. He sang the memorable anthem of American problems, What's Going On? I also remember my father-in law as he became old and sedentary watching Iran-Contra news on his Zenith and suddenly exclaiming "Is there an honest man left in politics"? I was very disappointed upon discovering that Hillary once again is spinning yarns and being deceptive with the public. Between what happened in back to back scandals in New York State and really sleazy stuff  being dragged from New Jersey I am almost becoming totally disillusioned with these characters. Why  can't the parties just interview all the university presidents across America and send two of them running for important positions. Admittedly, this particular stable, the educational arena, would produce although not political individuals, offer voters men and women of all races and backgrounds with much higher intellectual abilities, polish and probably honesty as well. Although I consider myself to be Republican-Conservative and would not be voting for either Democrat as I will assuredly vote for John McCain, I am nevertheless astounded that Hillary might try to con us as if we were back in time again. I really hope that this story about prior events in Bosnia was an inadvertent mistake versus some kind of deliberate and invented cartoonish attempt to deceive us. You have to think that "I made a mistake" sound bytes are happening far too often. Mistakes in high places are not as easily accepted by the voting public as they are easily excused among the hoy poloy.

Election 2008 Is All About Race

March 19, 2008

I myself marched during the Civil Rights Movement in 1963 to voice my insistence on achieving racial equality. Those were the days of Selma and Montgomery, the slain civil rights workers, Bull Connor and the water hoses and police dogs, Faubus, Wallace and Thurmond. At that time I lived on the Upper Upper West Side of Manhattan and in 1964 race riots broke out 1 mile north of where my family lived in our apartment. But that was a long time ago and today Black people go to the finest universities instead of a Governor blocking their way. They are professionals in law, medicine, professorship and become astronauts.
Race relations will never be perfect for anyone in America in our lifetime but before the emergence of Barack Obama in this Election 2008 we all, black and white were doing pretty good and getting along better than we have for many years. Suddenly I am looking at a 1964 election with racial divides popping up everywhere from all sides and the media bogged down with Obama's personal problems instead of concentrating on the issues that if not addressed in lieu of racial considerations and events in Obama's complicated lifestyle will only begin to ruin black and white families together. Of course race relations is an issue to contend with and attempt to improve at all times. The economic meltdown consisting of the spiraling stock market, the housing crisis, the sub-crime mortgage situation, universal health care, the war, rogue enemy nations, oil prices and education are all far more important at this time to deal with. Obama has maneuvered this country into an unnecessary and damaging discussion of race relations that while important were essentially launched by his personal involvements and may end up causing the media and voters to be mired in a quixotic and meandering trip down memory lane hurling this secondary discussion around and around possibly into the General Election which will be devastating, causing us to be enjoined from attacking the big problems at hand. Just remember, Obama's relationships (2) in Chicago, his lack of experience mostly walking out of the room on meetings and discussions, his slick and non-specific speeches, his unclear and super repetitive "change" word which deluded young and inexperienced voters, his wife's disrespectful remarks about our country and much more, originally caused justifiable criticism of him by voters and the media. That vetting of a Presidential Candidate angered his community who in their frenzy to win the Presidency even if it meant electing an ersatz  Black President initiated a feud that was unknown in 2007. The preacher screamed out an allegation that the US had created HIV in the Black community and supplied Black people with illegal material and then jailed them. He also simulated sexual events from the pulpit referring to President Clinton. In that old New York neighborhood I spoke about if this preacher screamed like that on 79th Street and Broadway it is very likely that a passerby would dial 911 and the preacher may have been taken by police to a famous hospital on second avenue called Bellevue. There are many  commentators on news programs who are legitamizing Obama's ties as a listener to what are actually truly psychotic statements and behavior. His preacher clearly said that America created the infusion of HIV Aids in Black people, meaning that in his estimation this country committed attempted murder against it's citizens. Bizarre statements from the preacher surrounded our greatest tradgedy as a nation in 2001. Obama denies that he knew any of these revelations during an intimate 20 year relationship with the preacher. The other 15 year relationship in Chicago is still under investigation by the press and media. I don't know what else is going to surface but perhaps the preacher should ask Obama to set him up with a good doctor who may possibly suggest an Abilify or Seoquel perscription.

Obama Was Supposed to Offer His Explanantions

March 18, 2008

When I heard Barack Obama give his speech this morning I did not see too much of a difference between his usual stump speech and what he offered to the American people this morning. I was under the impression that we the American voters were  entitled to some explanations surrounding the recent events concerning his questionable associations with apparent heretics and individualsin serious legal trouble. Mainly, his attendance at specified events and his knowledge of the material espoused at these specific times were supposed to be addressed. My conclusion is that he was given free air time to go on a political bender with specificity in the back seat as usual. This entire Democratic campaign has evolved into a 1960's Bull Connor and Malcolm X free for all. We are now as the voting public more ensconced with race relations than the war or the economy or health care, items that effect all of us black and white much more than Obama's problems. I have said before, he should have written this speech in a less trivial and Aesop Fable laden manner today. Obama should tell stories about his grandma at Thanksgiving dinners instead of at speeches that are of world wide importance. I do not think that any voter of any backgtound really wanted race to be the central issue of the election, whilethis issue will never be perfect I believe we were all getting along pretty well and can afford to focus on more troubling problems such as the economy.

American Voters Need Political Science Seminars

March 11, 2008

All across this nation American Drivers voluntarily attend defensive driving courses and as in the case of New York State receive various incentives to stimulate their attendance which happens to be impressive in numbers. I think Congress should legislate a similar deal for those willing to partake in political science seminars which also would address the inner workings of our government. Again, incentives such as tax credits, gift certificates or insurance points could be offered that would cause maybe a large number of American voters to learn how to decipher the implausable rhetoric we are hearing in this campaign. Candidates offering nebulous and unsupportable promises would be stopped in their tracks by the one thing that I am noticing in today's voting public that is now lacking-political knowledge and education. I firmly believe that our voters erroneously believe that everybody working in Washington can be cleaned out in the name of change. Did anybody listen to Rudy Guiliani (this is like reviving a dead body) when he said at one of the debates "what change". And that is exactly what I am referring to, an ignorance of the facts that is actually attracting voters to a "rock star" who even has his own Internet and media groupie (she is really stunning, I saw her on a late night program). So every time I see a 19 year old on a newsreel coming home feet first or people losing their jobs and their homes and children with no health care, I must remind everyone that a 2 hour seminar would transform these lemmings into informed voters who never in the future will fall for evasive Jim Morrisons (he also had groupies but he had no chance of being President). My belief, in summation is that all of us need to take more responsibility in how we vote because a wishy washy candidate, if elected on the backs of voters who are easily led by catch phrases that cannot be translated into reality can turn into a leopard with very different spots once securely in the Oval office.

SOMETHING IS ROTTEN IN THE STATE OF DENMARK

March 5, 2008

I am just going to say that the chain of events surrounding Barack Obama's Chicago unpleasantness in the home buying and political fundraising arenas cannot be probatively explained by anyone other than Mr.Obama himself. The news media has indicated Obama's plan to answer whatever is "pertinent" in the questioning. To me that does not mean an all inclusive rendering of the facts because by Obama signalling that he will only address what is ordinarily central to what is inquired from him, he is clearly saying that he intends to omit items that he does not consider to be necessary for him to reveal. Barack Obama is running for Leader of the Free World so I think the media and the voters get to hear the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Although Hillary has had her own problems as we all know. "Guilt by association" when applied or questioned of presidential hopefuls as opposed to some plumber or a crossing guard somewhere in my view is not only valid but a necessary appraisal of an individual who must be held to a higher order and sometimes commonlaw must be amended for the purposes of protecting our nation. I think that because of this matter and the Canada mishap and Mrs. Obama's troubling remarks, the tide is turning big time for Hillary Clinton.

Obama'a Real Estate Purchase

March 2, 2008

This morning on ABC's Roundtable discussion on Election 2008, the subject came up concerning Obama's long term relationship with a Chicago developer who presently is experiencing what may be serious legal difficulties. Hillary brought this up in a 10 second sound bite at one of the debates awhile ago and most abruptly and certainly way out of the context of the debate. But on ABC this morning not one individual could reveal any details concerning what has been described as a real estate purchase jointly made by the two in Chicago. Hillary, incidentally at that prior debate and to my knowledge not since then, referred to Obama's friend as a slumlord. I do not know why everybody is so mum on the entire matter of the friendship or the property in question. Maybe there is nothing here other than two guys buying a lot with one in politics and one involved in real estate development. Obama, however, is running to be the Leader of the Free World and therefore it is not on the table that the public and the media simply brush anything under the table. I suggest two things as a freelance writer who has only been to Chicago once in1977 and has no specific knowledge about this issue and that is to explore whether at any time Obama failed to practice due diligence principles applied to politicians only if required and secondly, appropriate and experienced professionals in real estate or the legal field should simply appear on an unofficial investigatory basis only (real estate documents are considered to be constructive evidence and some are public records where anyone can view them free of any implication) at the appropriate County Clerk to at least locate the real property in question. If years ago the two men purchased a vacant lot, by now it may be developed and we can all see the nature of the property and it's character and whether these two individuals still own it or whether they have sold it and to whom. Remember this, the American people have an absolute right to vet and investigate the backgrounds of Presidential candidates especially where some concerns were brought up by Hillary, a United States Senator as opposed to a doubting thomas somewhere mired in a far less aura of credibility.

Obama wants to bring them home and maybe send them back?

February 28, 2008

I distinctly remember I would say when I was 5 years old that I had a bag of various and sundry rubber soldiers  about 2 inches in height and poised in different stances with equipment in hand. Whenever I took a bath I would line the toy soldiers around the rim of the bathtub and in a crouch as I went down to my neck in the bathwater, I systematically played war with a squirt gun with my lilliputian pals, knocking them over the rim and unto the bathmat.

Mr. Obama, your military strategy as you expressed today reminded me of myself as a little boy squirting those soldiers with my water gun. This is serious business in 2008, not child's play. With a troubled economy and all the risks we face of a mistaken maneuver in the war zone, who would ever think of bringing our troops home into the arms of their loved ones and then for any conceivable reason boomeranging them back? Is this Obama's idea of war reruns? How much would all of this cost the American taxpayer, why would we even think of such an impractical move, and why not just get it over with per John McCain, win it and then come home as America has for the most part always done in these conflagrations. Our troops and our citizens at home are not made of rubber, all of us are flesh and blood.

I Have Never Seen An Election Like This

February 27, 2008

I attended the 1956 Republican Party Convention with my Dad, an itinerant and small time politician. Since then, and having been employed in my teens by a major national pollster and then proceeding to put in many years suceeding  as a campaign worker throughout my life, I have never seen anything like this Election 2008. It not only seems to me to be surreal and unrealistic but actually although momentarily, completely absurd. I firmly believe that Obama's apparently frenetic and idolizing support comes from voters who are not necessarily considering him for his persona as a politician or leader but more for what they are sure will occur should he be elected-a big house cleaning in Washington D.C. Obama has made so many blunders and irrational , unsupportable statements and proposed strategies such as pulling out of the war and then maybe going back in addition to his wife's outrageous and polarizing behavior would have derailed any other candidate of any party a long time ago. I have never seen a First Lady with such an angered and contentious facial expression as Mrs. Obama.when she stands at the mike and this has no effect on the voters at all, Today I read about official investigators looking into a matter connected with a past Obama speech although I have seen no media coverage of it. All of this does not vex me one bit as a life long Republican because as I have already mentioned, voters may not be voting for the man as opposed to the result. Young people voting possibly for the first or second time are reacting to Obama as if he were the Myly Sirius of politics. They are certainly not quantifying his ability to accomplish the gargantuan promises he has made and also might be endorsing a Washington rotation. I will vote for John McCain and not solely because I always vote Republican. Mr. McCain is Presidential in his aspect, a military man and war hero and is a straight talker and that is why he has my vote and more importantly, my trust.

Who' Saying What About John McCain?

February 21, 2008

If you can't stand the guy next door, you turn him in to the City Hall for not putting out his recycle bin.You have to be a little wary about the liberal slanted New York Times for drumming up this rather droll and common feature about John McCain making love to some blonde lobbyist just as the 21st century began a long time ago. Bill Clinton, Gary Hart and even Eisenhower went through this same, boring gossip unscathed because the voters do not judge our politicians by whether they step out or not. We all know that men are men and when we stop looking we are dead. Having an affair does in no way inhibit a man's ability to run the country and may actually cause him to be a little bit more relaxed and content. The influence peddling allegation as a story component and described as an issue where the paper alledges that McCain was a proponent for his supposed lobbyist girlfriend is rather glum but so far unproven and certainly not serious enough to derail him any further. Obama himself has yet to settle his possibly misunderstood 15 year relationship with the gentleman Hillary referred to as a slumlord in Chicago. The Democrates should be nice to the people they meet on the way up..............................

Anyway, my personal take on this matter is that everybody keeps saying how John is too old-well maybe he as a tango in him left and at my age as well I admire him for the apparent abilities that have remained with him.

Another Speech To Nowhere

 February 20, 2008

I remember going on a Singles Cruise To Nowhere 30 years ago on the Staten Island Ferry which took its passengers around Manhattan Island in a circle and never actually went anywhere. Last night when Barack Obama verified the old Jimmy Durante adage "Everybody wants to get into the act" by giving Hillary the hook and taking us on a 45 minute cruise to nowhere with a slew of promises that will be years in the making and just as complex and unworkable as any of our bureaucratic dreams, that was his admitted attempt at specificity. The issue that struck me as most incredible was the Obama promise to give college bound kids a $6,000 tax credit and then make the kids work it off by serving food at inner city soup kitchens or even shipping out to the peace corps. There was no mention of our blossoming deficit  and the most evident creation of a Federal office with unimaginable responsibilities to oversee this program, track student activities, maintain computerization and file systems, paperwork, mailings and the induction of perhaps hundreds of Federal employees to make this unusual dream come true. As per usual, when Obama does his 45 minutes, the question invariably comes up "who is going to pay for all this".
